Who We Are
Established in 2009, the River Bend Writing Project at the University of Southern Indiana serves educators in all disciplines, at all grade levels, from preschool through college, in Southern Indiana, Northwestern Kentucky, and Southeastern Illinois. The purpose of RBWP is to strengthen writing instruction by having teachers teach teachers. Through research based instruction, we learn and teach others best practices in teaching writing and literacy.
The core of the RBWP is the Summer Institute, an intensive summer program where teachers, again of all grade levels (p-16) and in all subject areas, design and demonstrate writing lessons, discuss current research, and participate in their own personal writing time. Through collaboration and reflection, we are able to not only improve our teaching practices, but to reawaken the writer within.
The River Bend Writing Project currently offers a program of professional development available for schools and districts for a fee. All of our professional development emphasizes research-based instruction that values, in addition to theory, the lived experiences of teachers in the classroom. At River Bend, we believe teachers are our most valuable resource. We hope you will join our network of dedicated, passionate teaching professionals.
